Astrium - EADS CASA Espacio has selected HV Sistemas for the design, development, manufacture and delivery of the Sentinel-3 MWR EGSE to provide support during the assembly, integration and test phases of the satellite Microwave Radiometer.

The MWR is a dual-band injection-type microwave radiometer, used to determine Earth temperature and humidity in order to compensate the height readings provided by the Sentinel-3 synthetic aperture radar.

This EGSE provides support for the integration of the different subsystems that compose the radiometer, as well as satellite platform simulation to support the MWR system test campaigns.

The EGSE provides the following functionalities

- Platform Simulation, including SMU simulation (MIL-STD-1553 bus controller, nominal and redundant, and HK TM acquisition) and PCDU simulation.

- Radiometer Processor Module simulation, providing data communication with the platform (PUS protocol over MIL-STD-1553 nominal and redundant buses), RFFE analog HK and Science Data acquisition, radiometer baseband signal reception and processing including radiometer loop operation, providing the switching signals to the RFFE. This module also includes RPM HK signals generation

- RF Front-End Module simulation, receiving RPM switching signals and generating baseband signals accordingly. This module also provides analog HK and Science Data signal generation, using high precision programmable thermistor simulators.

- Radiomenter Test Signals interface, providing data acquisition in real time of radiometer internal digitized signals

All EGSE subsystems communicates with two workstations located in the EGSE rack, acting as CCS (Central Checkout System) and SDP (Science Data Processor) through Ethernet interfaces. EGSE subsystems are composed by several modules (HV Sistemas H8810 power supply modules and custom modules for precision thermistor simulation, analog data acquisition, switching signals generation, and baseband signal generation and processing) which communicates with controller modules (one in each subsystem) through a CAN bus, using CANopen protocol.

EGSE subsystem control modules incorporate each a HV Sistemas H8606 embedded processor, running uClinux, and complete with a graphical touch-screen based user interface for local monitoring and management.
